The Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program funds state, local, and tribal governments to create and implement energy efficiency and conservation projects. The program aims to reduce fossil fuel emissions, lower total energy use, and improve energy efficiency across transportation, buildings, and other sectors. Originally authorized under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, funding was renewed under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021. In FY 2024, 247 new awards were issued, ranging from $10,000 to $6,875,730. Eligible activities include developing energy efficiency strategies, conducting building energy audits, establishing financial incentive programs, and providing grants for energy efficiency improvements.
