Frontier AI Discovery (Phase 1) provides £25,000–£50,000 to UK-registered organisations for 3-month feasibility studies on frontier AI and foundation models. This Phase 1 competition is a prerequisite for larger Phase 2 demonstrator funding (£5m–£10m). Projects must align with one of four missions: AI-Enabled Health and Life Sciences, Advanced Materials with AI, Secure AI for National Security and Defence, or Fundamental AI. At least 25% of projects focus on foundation model development. All work must be carried out and exploited within the UK.

Open to UK-registered organisations of any type including businesses, research organisations, RTOs, charities, NGOs, and public sector bodies. Single applicants only (no collaborations in Phase 1). Projects must be carried out and exploited in the UK.
