This First of a Kind (FOAK26) competition provides a share of £4.3 million to support organisations in developing prototypes, conducting field testing, and demonstrating solutions across eight specific transportation themes for UK railways. The competition is co-funded by Innovate UK and the Department for Transport (DfT). Projects must address one or more of eight challenges across economic, transport user experience, and environmental/decarbonization themes. Each contract is worth up to £210,000 (inclusive of VAT) providing 100% funding as a procurement of R&D services. This is a single-phase competition running from 1 September 2026 to 31 March 2027 (3-7 months duration). Projects must reach Rail Industry Readiness Level (RIRL) 5 or above.

Wer kann sich bewerben

Open to organisations of any size, including international entities (EU/EEA/non-EU). Single legal entities only. Project work must primarily occur in the UK. Projects must reach Rail Industry Readiness Level (RIRL) 5 or above and include an integration partner for testing.
