Core Research Grants from the Russell Sage Foundation support innovative social science research focused on improving social and living conditions in the United States. Principal investigators and co-principal investigators must hold a doctorate; students are ineligible (rare exceptions for non-PhDs with equivalent high-level research records)

Preference given to projects with fully developed designs, access to data, and pre-tested instruments
All applicants (both PIs and Co-PIs) must have a doctorate.
In rare circumstances, RSF may consider applications from scholars who do not hold a doctorate but can demonstrate a strong career background that establishes their ability to conduct high-level, peer-reviewed scholarly research.
