Absa L’Atelier 2026 Visual Arts Competition

The Absa L’Atelier 2026 competition invites emerging and established visual artists from twelve African countries to apply for one of the continent’s leading contemporary art awards and residency programmes. Winners receive professional development opportunities including mentorship, international residencies, exhibitions, masterclasses, and financial support, with three artists selected as Absa L’Atelier Ambassadors. The programme also includes the Gerard Sekoto Award for a South African artist aged 25–35, offering a Paris residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts, travel support, a daily stipend, and a future solo exhibition.

Who can apply

Visual artists aged 21–40 who are citizens or permanent residents of one of twelve eligible African countries and permanently reside there.
