A*STAR International Fellowship (AIF)

A*STAR (Agency for Science, Technology and Research)

An innovation-focussed postdoctoral track for entrepreneurial-minded researchers looking to enhance their technical expertise and enterprise acumen. Fellows gain hands-on experience by translating research into ventures through placements in deep-tech startups or venture capital firms. Supports up to 2 years of overseas postdoctoral training, followed by a 3-year service commitment at A*STAR research institutes in Singapore.

Who can apply

Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who have completed a PhD within the last 4 years (or are in final stage). Foreigners with outstanding records may be considered but must obtain citizenship before starting.

Eligibility criteria

Open primarily to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents
Non-Singaporeans with outstanding records may be considered but must obtain Singapore citizenship before starting the fellowship
Applicants must have completed a PhD within the last 4 years or be in the final stage of their PhD
No existing bonds to any institution are permitted
Mid-term applicants must be Singaporean and already enrolled in a top overseas university or laboratory
Applicants must secure endorsement from a proposed A*STAR Research Institute supervisor and Executive Director
Final-stage PhD students may apply but the award is contingent on PhD conferment
