ERA Fellowships

An additional funding track for applicants to European Postdoctoral Fellowships who intend to work with host organisations in designated 'widening countries'. It provides extra fellowships for excellent candidates who were not selected for the main MSCA funding due to budget limitations.

Who can apply

Early-career researchers of any nationality who apply to European Postdoctoral Fellowships with host organisations in EU widening countries (15 EU Member States and 14 Associated Countries with lower R&I performance). Candidates must hold a PhD and have maximum 8 years post-PhD research experience.

Eligibility criteria

Must hold a PhD at the time of application (or have successfully defended thesis by deadline)
Maximum 8 years of post-PhD research experience (exceptions apply for career breaks, non-research roles, and reintegration scenarios)
Must not have resided or conducted main activity (work/study) in the host organization's country for more than 12 months in the 36 months preceding the call deadline
Applications must be developed jointly with a supervisor and host institution
Applicants must apply to European Postdoctoral Fellowships with host organisations in designated 'widening countries' to access ERA Fellowship track
ERA Fellowships are for excellent candidates who were not selected for main MSCA funding due to budget limitations
