FWF Wittgenstein Award

The FWF Wittgenstein Award provides €2 million in funding over 60 months to support outstanding researchers with a strong international reputation. Candidates are nominated by a select group of eligible nominators, such as university rectors and previous winners. The award recognizes exceptional past academic work and the ability to continue research at the highest international level. Selection is based on international peer review and an international jury's recommendation.

Who can apply

Outstanding researchers from all scientific disciplines who hold a permanent position at an Austrian research institution, are aged 60 or under, have a high international reputation, and have maintained their center of vital interests in Austria for at least one year. Candidates must be nominated by specific eligible parties (university rectors/vice-rectors, President of Austrian Academy of Sciences, President of ISTA, or previous Wittgenstein Award winners).
