Gilliam Fellows Program

The HHMI Gilliam Fellows Program supports PhD students and their faculty thesis advisors to advance cutting-edge research, facilitate the transition to postdoctoral scientist, and foster inclusive scientific training environments. Fellows receive up to three years of stipend support, a discretionary allowance, professional development, and the opportunity to apply for additional postdoctoral support.

Who can apply

Second- and third-year PhD students in basic biological and biomedical sciences at eligible HHMI institutions across the US. International PhD students and health-sciences dual degree PhD students (e.g., MD-PhD) are now eligible starting 2026. Must attend an eligible institution.
