Eligibility criteria

Must be a registered organisation; individuals are not eligible
Categories A & B: Applicants must be based in Malaysia, Singapore, or Brunei
Category C: Restricted to institutions providing Japanese language education in Malaysia
Projects must not be profit-oriented; strictly exclude political, religious, social welfare, fundraising, or purely research-based activities
Cannot receive other funding from the Japan Foundation for the same project
Recurring applications for the same project for more than three consecutive years are low priority
Applicants must demonstrate at least 20% of total budget covered by other sources
Applicants must obtain all necessary permits (e.g., PUSPAL for foreign artists, censorship approvals)
