Clusters of Excellence (COE)

The Clusters of Excellence program supports large consortia of researchers at Austrian institutions to conduct outstanding cooperative research. It aims to strengthen core research areas over the long term through a combination of cutting-edge research, research-led education, and the promotion of junior researchers. Funding ranges from €10 million to €35 million per project for an initial 60-month period, with participating institutions contributing 40% of the funding. Total project duration can extend to 120 months subject to a positive interim evaluation.
