Core Research Grants

Core Research Grants from the Russell Sage Foundation support innovative social science research focused on improving social and living conditions in the United States. All applications must be preceded by a letter of inquiry, with three funding cycles per year and a maximum of $200,000 including indirect costs. The foundation prioritizes projects with well-developed research designs, novel data use, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Critères d'éligibilité

Principal investigators and co-principal investigators must hold a doctorate; students are ineligible (rare exceptions for non-PhDs with equivalent high-level research records)
Research must be fully developed (design, sample framework, and data access) before applying
Funding restricted to social science research that improves social and living conditions in the U.S.
Projects must align with RSF's specific core programs or special initiatives as announced
LOIs must detail hypotheses, data/sampling, research design, budget estimates, and investigator qualifications
Preference given to projects with fully developed designs, access to data, and pre-tested instruments
All applicants (both PIs and Co-PIs) must have a doctorate.
In rare circumstances, RSF may consider applications from scholars who do not hold a doctorate but can demonstrate a strong career background that establishes their ability to conduct high-level, peer-reviewed scholarly research.
