Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur Grants 2025-2026

The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) Small Grant Programme provides funding for projects that promote understanding of Japan and foster cultural exchange between Japan and Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei. The programme supports three categories: Japanese Arts & Cultural Exchange (Category A), Japanese Studies & Global Partnerships (Category B), and Japanese Language Education (Category C). Grants cover partial project costs including artist honoraria, travel, accommodation, venue rental, and teaching materials.

Qui peut postuler

Registered organisations based in Malaysia, Singapore, or Brunei are eligible for Categories A & B. Category C is restricted to Japanese language education institutions in Malaysia only.

Critères d'éligibilité

Must be a registered organisation; individuals are not eligible
Categories A & B: Applicants must be based in Malaysia, Singapore, or Brunei
Category C: Restricted to institutions providing Japanese language education in Malaysia
Projects must not be profit-oriented; strictly exclude political, religious, social welfare, fundraising, or purely research-based activities
Cannot receive other funding from the Japan Foundation for the same project
Recurring applications for the same project for more than three consecutive years are low priority
Applicants must demonstrate at least 20% of total budget covered by other sources
Applicants must obtain all necessary permits (e.g., PUSPAL for foreign artists, censorship approvals)
