Money follows Researcher

Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)

The Money follows Researcher (MfR) scheme allows SNSF grant recipients to continue their projects after moving abroad. Projects can either continue in Switzerland (managed from abroad) or be transferred to the new host institution. The scheme is open to project and career grant recipients subject to specific conditions regarding project feasibility and funding transfer rules. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Decisions are final and made on a case-by-case basis.

Current SNSF project and career grant recipients who relocate abroad. Postdoc.Mobility return grants are ineligible.

Critères d'éligibilité

Applicants must hold an active SNSF project grant or career grant (Ambizione, PRIMA, Eccellenza, SNSF Starting Grants 2025/2026)
Project feasibility must be guaranteed at the new location
Postdoc.Mobility return grants are excluded from this scheme
Career grant requests are only considered after one year of the project has elapsed
Maximum one year of transition funding is permitted for career grants
Recipient salaries cannot be transferred or repurposed; they must be repaid to the SNSF
Horizon Europe transitional measures are only accepted two years after grant start (excluding Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships)
No additional funding (including inflation offsets) or no-cost extensions are permitted after transfer
