The Sony Creative Science Award (SCSA) is Singapore’s flagship toy-making competition for primary school students, jointly organised by Science Centre Singapore and Sony Group of Companies in Singapore, with support from the Ministry of Education. Now in its 29th year, the competition challenges students to design and build original toys that demonstrate scientific principles in a fun and engaging way.
The competition is open to all Primary 1 to 6 students in Singapore, divided into two categories:
Students may participate individually or in pairs. Each entry must be accompanied by a supervising teacher or parent.
The SCSA provides a platform for young innovators to apply classroom science concepts to hands-on toy creation. Past winning toys have ranged from simple mechanical puzzles to electronic games, all designed with recycled materials where possible.

Science Centre Singapore provides teacher workshops and resource guides to help educators mentor students. Schools can also request a visit from the SCSA outreach team for hands-on guidance.
In previous editions, students have created toys like a balloon-powered car, a magnetic maze, and a working model of a crane. Many winners have gone on to represent Singapore in international competitions such as the International Young Inventors Project Olympiad.
