Research Fellowship Programme

A fellowship for European researchers to conduct research in Japan and Japanese researchers to conduct research in Europe. Supports all research fields for 3 to 12 months with funding up to €30,000 per year. The application deadline is 15 September 2026.

European researchers (nationals of European countries including the Balkans, Baltic states, Israel, Switzerland, Turkey and UK) for research in Japan; Japanese researchers for research in Europe. Must have completed at least a Master's degree within the 10 years preceding application.

Criteri di ammissibilità

European researchers who want to do research in Japan and Japanese researchers who want to do research in Europe.
Applicants with European nationality (including the Balkans, Baltic states, Israel, Switzerland, Turkey and UK) are expected to carry out their research in Japan.
Japanese applicants are expected to carry out their research in Europe.
You must have completed at least a Master's degree within the 10 years preceding your application and hold the degree at the time of submission.
You do not need to be enrolled or employed at the time of applying.
Preference is given to applicants who plan to travel to Japan/Europe/Africa rather than those seeking to extend current stays.
