Future Data Services Sandpit: Transforming Discovery and Access

A one-off, two-stage call for UK-based consortia to enhance existing social science data service infrastructures, with up to £21.6M (shared across 5–10 projects, 80% FEC) available over 24–48 months. Projects must partner an existing ESRC data service and focus on improving data discovery, access to sensitive data, and technology-enabled pipelines including AI, with a mandatory upskilling work package. The sandpit takes place in October 2026, with the full proposal deadline on 3 December 2026.

Only UK-based academic or research organisations can lead; business, third sector, and government partners may co-lead but cannot be the lead organisation. Non-UK applicants ineligible.
