ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowships (ETH Fellows) 2026 (September Call)

The ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowships programme supports young, promising researchers who have already demonstrated the ability to conduct independent research. The fellowships are awarded for two years and are fully funded, covering salary and research costs. Fellows are hosted by an ETH Zurich professor and conduct their own research project.

Who can apply

Applicants must hold a doctorate or complete it within 6 months; doctorate obtained max 2 years before deadline; PhD not from ETH Zurich or University of Zurich; no more than 12 months residence in Switzerland in past 3 years; no more than 6 months at ETH Zurich, EPFL, or Swiss research institutes

Eligibility criteria

At the time of the submission deadline, applicants must hold a doctorate (PhD) or will complete their doctorate within the next six months.
Applicants with the doctorate must have obtained it a maximum of two years prior to the submission deadline.
Applicants who earned their PhD from ETH Zurich or the University of Zurich will not be considered.
Applicants may not have resided or carried out their main activity in Switzerland for more than twelve months in the three years immediately before the submission deadline.
Applicants may not have carried out their main activity at ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne, a research institute of the ETH domain, or the University of Zurich for more than six months in the three years immediately before the submission deadline.
Applicants need to have at least one scientific publication in a peer-reviewed journal or have been awarded a prize for their doctoral thesis.
